Free Wheeling in Wellington 2010

Postby gizmoduck » Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:16 am

Hi everyone,

Wellington City Council are very keen on having unicyclists involved in a Cycling Festival heading heading into Summer. It will promoted in city council flyers and other advertising that will be distributed around the Wellington. We took over the city this year during UNICON, lets' keep the ball rolling and do the same for the upcoming summer.

We need to submit proposals to the Wgtn City Council by 13 August. It is planned from mid-October to mid-December.

A few ideas:
Twilight urban ride meeting on the waterfront- Joe's group
Learn to ride a Unicycle - Steve P Nth Club?
Frocks on Unicycles - special learn to ride session for women (Rachael, Lynne, Hui Fang, May and any other local woman riders. We better get up to speed!!)
DVD evening - filming and show & tell. To be explored further
Group ride for medium to experienced riders - Ken
Unicycle hockey ... Kim? Mauritai School Eastbourne?
Track racing Newtown Park. High jump, long jump, 100m etc

It doesn't have to be spectacular- even if you are planning a ride already- then the only difference is that it is going to be advertised around Wellington, and you might have an audience turning up! Remember how awesome that was to have spectators cheering us on during Unicon?

Please contact Hui Fang: manager (at) unicycle.org.nz

Cheers,

Something at the skate park would probably work well, get some of the trials and street guys to have a jam and do their thing. The street and flatland events at unicon attracted some decent crowds such that it was hard (for me) to find a place to watch from! Find a stereo and you're good to go, have a mini comp maybe. I'd show up and help out/watch :)

At the moment we're keen on the idea of a public-learn-to-ride workshop on 11 Dec, in conjunction with the wacky race.

The programme is there to promote informal rides also, which means that if you were going to go for a ride anyway, have it listed and other people who unicycle can come down. It doesn't have to be there to show off to the public. For instance, some MTB clubs have just listed their usual club rides in there.

But we do need dates etc by the 16 August so it can be printed in the Wgtn CityCouncil flyers/programme. Get in touch with Hui Fang (as above), as I will be heading off to Mongolia on Sat, and won't be able to check my emails till after the deadline.
