Funding Agencies

Most corporate sponsors and SPARC don't sponsor individuals but rather teams or events. Imagine what the NZUni weekend could be like with some corporate sponsorhip/prizemoney, and funding for our elite unicyclists to attend international events like Unicon. And an advertising budget to recruit more unicyclists into the sport, into schools.

Ken Looi had a look through the SPARC website (formerly Hilary Commision): I think if the NZ Darts association and the NZ Rodeo cowboys assoc has SPARC affiliation why can't we? It's worth having a look at what they require for an organisation to be recognised with them:

Bit too late perhaps but Air NZ ? sponsor sports teams travel costs:

I had a look at Hillary Commission funding some years ago
Funding thru regional organisations eg "Sport Wellington" (Sport Wgtn shared a building with the rugby union)
"What about National recognition" they laughed (literally) and suggested mayb I could beg Cycling NZ to make a uni SIG
I went to a Sport Wellington funding seminar.... sat next to professional fundraisers from the league clubs
Want documented specific proposals, and formal financial and performance anaysis documents after the event
At that time funding for us would only be available for coaching and then probably only at elite level
eg we could be funded to bring an expert from overseas for a day but not to send say Steve to 100 schools over 3 months
Apparently they were concerned that there were something like 18000 clubs in NZ.... and only about 4000 bother to even apply for funding
They were very paranoid about indiviuals abusing the system.... eg "elite" athletes wanting overseas trips or lifestyle subsidies
No doubt things have changed.... but don't expect it to be easy or that your priorities are shared or even recognised
